Paediatric Services
The Hospital Paediatric service provides treatment for the full range of acute and chronic childhood illnesses, for inpatients, day cases and outpatients. Areas covered include Epilepsy, Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes, Dermatology and Asthma allergies. Specialist Paediatric Nurses work both in the hospital and community in order to treat patients.
There are specialist clinics carried out jointly with colleagues from Alder Hey Children's Hospital. A full range of children's surgery services are provided, and dedicated children's operating lists are now held in most specialities.
A two-bedded High Dependency Unit is sited on the children's medical ward, which provides care to children with both surgical and medical conditions. The special needs of adolescents are also catered for.
Christopher Wing, a residential facility for parents is sited close to the Paediatric Ward.
A Specialist Nurse to provide care to children with life threatening diseases was appointed in April 2003. A team of Paediatric Nurses and Community Nursery Nurses provide Health Care and support to children with complex health needs in the community via the Children's Community Care Package Team.
