ENT Department

The department of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) provides a wide range of clinical services including Otology, Neck Lump and Thyroid services and General ENT treatment. The department has been renowned in the region with respect to complex major middle ear intervention and is a regional referral centre for Bone Anchored Hearing Aids.

A wider clinical team supports the consultant team to deliver a comprehensive ENT service to our patients, and the department is supported by a Macmillan Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist, a number of registered general nurses and nursing assistants, and a team of dedicated medical and support secretaries.

 

ENT Services and Specialist Clinics

Our department provides comprehensive adult and paediatric ENT care, including:

  • Rapid Diagnostic Service for Suspected Cancer (Fast‑Track Pathway) and dedicated Neck Lump Clinic for patients referred with suspected Head & Neck Cancer.
  • Rapid‑Access SHO Clinic.
  • Head & Neck Cancer Support via our specialist Head & Neck Macmillan Nurse.
  • SALT (Speech and Language Therapy) Support – integrated SALT involvement for voice, swallowing and post‑treatment rehabilitation.
  • Paediatric ENT Clinic.
  • Voice Clinic.
  • Joint ENT–Oncology Clinic.
  • BCHI (Bone Conduction Hearing Implants) Clinic.

Where clinically applicable, you may be seen by both ENT and Audiology on the same day of your clinic appointment to help facilitate quick access to a hearing test and a review of this by an ENT clinician in one visit.

The department does not currently perform the following procedures: Septorhinoplasty, Cochlear implantation, and treatment or procedures for snoring/obstructive sleep apnoea.
