Otolaryngology
The Department offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services directly to the public on referral from GPs and indirectly to the public through other hospital departments and the School Health Service, both in Chester and further afield.
In-patient, day case and some 19000 patients are seen per annum in the outpatient department. The work of the Department is classified under the following sub-specialties:
- Emergency Otolaryngology
- Head and Neck Surgery including Endocrine surgery (thyroid and parathyroid).
- One stop Head & Neck lump clinic including thyroid, parathyroid and parotid is upon running with acquisition of an Ultrasound machine in collaboration with the Radiology department.
- Otology: The department is renowned in the region with respect to any complex major middle ear intervention and is a regional referral centre for Bone Anchored Hearing Aid.
- Paediatric Otolaryngology
- Audiometry
With excellent paediatric anaesthetic service and very well equipped paediatric HDU, The department undertakes almost all paediatric ENT procedures except complex airway pathologies requiring intensive care facilities.
These include Tonsillectomy, Adenoidectomy, Grommet insertion, Pinnaplasty and paediatric Head & Neck lumps.
Phoniatry: The ENT department has established, together with the Speech & Language department, a very well equipped voice clinic and undertakes phonosurgical procedures.
