Maternity Services: RSV Vaccination self-referral.

We are pleased to offer all pregnant women access to a vital new vaccination, which will help protect all newborn babies from contracting the potentially serious virus Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

RSV

From 28 weeks gestation, pregnant women will be offered a single dose of the RSV vaccine - and will remain eligible for the vaccine until the birth of their baby.

If you are pregnant and would like a vaccine with us, here is what you can do;

  • Arrange an appointment for RSV vaccine following your 20-week scan. This appointment can be booked at the maternity reception desk.
  • If you have registered for a vaccine already using the self-referral form, a member of the team will arrange an appropriate appointment.
  • You may be offered the RSV vaccination if you visit the antenatal clinic (this will be on an ad hoc basis where possible.) Please speak to the Antenatal Clinic Midwife when you next visit.
  • To register to have your vaccine with us, please complete the self-referral form.

RSV is a leading cause of severe respiratory illness, especially in infants, and can result in pneumonia and bronchiolitis - conditions that sometimes require hospitalisation or intensive care. In the UK, RSV leads to approximately 30,000 hospitalisations of children under five annually and causes between 20 to 30 infant deaths each year.
