People across Cheshire and Merseyside are being urged to use NHS 111 for all non-emergency healthcare needs ahead of industrial action by junior doctors early in the New Year.
As previously announced by unions, junior doctors will take six days of industrial action from 7am on Wednesday 3 January to 7am on Tuesday 9 January.

6 December 2023 The number of patients admitted to hospital at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital with norovirus in the last week has risen quickly, reflecting the national trend reported earlier this month by the NHS. Thirteen patients currently have norovirus across both hospitals.

A dedicated frailty memory service set up at the Countess to improve access to diagnosis and support for elderly patients with dementia has been hailed as ‘outstanding’ by the national Neurology Academy.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has announced the official appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jane Tomkinson OBE, following a competitive and open recruitment process.
Jane has been acting CEO at the Trust since December 2022, taking on the role to provide additional senior leadership whilst also serving as CEO of Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Countess of Chester Hospital unveil brand new images of how new Women and Children’s Building will look
New images of what the Women and Children's Building will look like when it’s completed in summer 2025 at the Countess of Chester Hospital have been revealed by the Trust.
The artist’s impression pictures, which have not been released to the public before, give a visual insight into how the £110m three-storey facility will look when it opens in two years' time.

Work is well under way on The Countess of Chester Hospital’s brand new Women and Children’s Building (WCB), which is on track to open to the public in summer 2025.
Construction work officially started in June on the £110m three-storey facility, which will replace the existing Women and Children’s Building that has been in use since 1971, and the occasion was marked with a special breaking ground ceremony.
