Countess of Chester Hospital marks successful year of new urology clinic where patients are now being seen and treated quicker

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has introduced a new 'one stop' clinic that will help improve care for patients with urinary tract issues.

The new clinic is designed to address bring down waiting lists and reduce the number of follow-up appointments, in a bid to bring down the waiting list so that more patients are seen sooner.

Previously, patients with urinary issues often required several appointments to complete different tests before a treatment plan could be decided.

The new clinic streamlines this process, offering all necessary tests and advice in a single visit, giving patients the opportunity for a thorough check-up and a chance to discuss treatment options all on the same day.

Since its launch in November 2023, the new clinic has also helped to reduce or eliminate the need for catheters, freeing patients from having to wear them for periods of time and easing the burden on hospital resources.

With all essential equipment and specialists available on-site, the clinic has significantly reduced the need for follow-up appointments, which has allowed the urology team to discharge patients back to their GPs or schedule them for surgery much faster.

Pavlo Somov, Consultant Urologist at the Countess of Chester Hospital, said: "We are really pleased with how successful the clinic has been so far and there have been lots of benefits for patients.

"Overall, with its streamlined care and reduced waiting times, we hope the new clinic has really helped patients regain comfort and confidence,” he added.

“The advancements and innovations underway to improve and speed up care and treatment will help us to provide top-quality care to our patients, with more treatment for non-cancerous prostate enlargement hopefully being made available soon too.”

The new clinic comes as the Trust continues to focus on improving patient care and experiences, as part of its long term plan to transform local hospital care.
