The Extra Mile Appeal

The Countess Charity is proud to continue the Extra Mile Appeal – a staff-led fundraising campaign with an ambitious goal of raising £250,000 to provide additional equipment that goes above and beyond NHS funding, helping to enhance patient care across our hospitals.

Celebrating Our First Year

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our staff and supporters, the first year of the appeal raised an outstanding £160,000. These funds have already made a real difference, providing vital equipment across the Trust, including:

  • ECG machines for Ellesmere Port Hospital, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Care of the Elderly Ward 50.
  • Additional zimmer frames, walking sticks and patient chairs for the Emergency Department, helping patients mobilise safely and comfortably.
  • An additional ultrasound machine for Theatres.
  • A Bone Anchored Hearing Aid (BAHA) system to support specialist patient care.
  • Televisions for children receiving care in the Paediatric Emergency Department.
  • Saturation monitors for patients being transferred safely from Intensive Care to Ward 56.

Year Two – Going the Extra Mile

Building on the success of our first year, we are now entering Year Two of the Extra Mile Appeal. Every donation helps us provide equipment that improves patient experience, supports our clinical teams, and enables the very best care.

About the appeal

While the NHS provides all essential equipment for patient care, this appeal is about going further - giving our staff more tools to go above and beyond for our patients by delivering care more efficiently.

The idea was born out of a conversation with a Ward Sister on the Acute Medical Assessment Unit, who shared the reality of working with just one bladder scanner - often loaned out to other departments up to 20 times a day. Like many wards, they regularly share ECG machines, blood pressure monitors and other key pieces of equipment.

Imagine the difference if each ward had their own dedicated equipment. Faster diagnosis. Quicker discharges. Fewer delays. Improved infection control. More time for patient care.

The Extra Mile Appeal will help us to do this by funding:

• Bladder scanners

• ECG machines

• Blood pressure monitors

Each ward has submitted its own wish list and now, we’re asking our local community to join us in going the extra mile for their hospital.
